Both Periods 1 and 5 will pick up their reading of the Canterbury Tales--The Prologue where they left off. Our sequence of instruction is already off-track as it will require at least one more class period to finish reading The Prologue. I should have known that. The Prologue is long. We will adjust the sequence of instruction when we meet again on Tuesday.
Thursday, Oct 1st--Students in Period 4 were given an open-book Quiz over The Prologue of The Canterbury Tales. The Quiz is due back to me on Monday, Oct. 5th
Friday, Oct. 2nd--Students spent a class period in the library revising their 1st drafts for organization. 2nd draft is due to me Thursday, Oct. 8th.

Week 6, Sept. 21-25, 2015
Both Periods 1 and 5 handed in their first drafts of their Compare and Contrast essays. These essays will only be assessed for organization. It will take me about a week to read them all and return them. My goal is to return them by Thursday.
Neither Period 1 nor 5 took the Unit 1 Exam on Friday. That was my choice. Friday was an assembly schedule, so class periods were shortened. I was afraid students would not have enough time to finish the exam. Both sections will be given the Unit One Exam on Monday, Sept. 21.
We will begin Unit Two, The Middle Ages, on Tuesday
On Friday, Sept. 25th, both Periods 1 and 5 took Quiz #3--Ballads. Period 1 finished reading through The Squire on page 123; Period 5 through The Nun line 134 on page 124.

Week 5, Sept. 14-18, 2015
Students in the Period 6 section will have a quiz over Geography Vocabulary Words 21-63 on Monday. Students in Period 4 have already taken the quiz, but several students in Period 6 were absent when the vocabulary definitions were due and we had to delay the quiz until they could finish and hand their definitions in for my review.
We will begin the week with the assignment of cooperative learning groups. There will be SIX groups in each section. Each group will be assigned one geographic region of Alaska to research. Each student will read two sources of information, selected by Mrs. P and Ms. Rinio, about their geographic region. Students will read, highlight the important information, categorize the information they have highlighted, complete an outline, determine what additional information they might need to fill in the "holes" in their outlines, and complete additional independent research to complete their outlines. Students will turn in their outlines Friday at the beginning of class.
Students will also be introduced to EasyBib and the Notebook application in Easy Bib.
